One of the things I love about NYC….random signs on plywood like this.
Posting random, slightly inspirational photos that signify why one “loves” NYC: a reason to hate Tumblr. Let’s take some time with this one.
Photos like this fall nicely into the general demographic of Tumblr, the one Peter W. Knox knows so well, which is “non-mainstream but accessible.” Perhaps Peter W. Knox saw this photo in his dashboard and agreed that it was “different” and “edgy” and it would fit into his Tumblr persona.
He thought:
Yes, I like this.
Yes, it means something. It’s deep, I guess.
Yes, it kind of makes me feel better about myself, which is always good.
Yes, it’s from one of those “artists” or whatever. I guess they don’t live in Manhattan anymore, but whatever. I’m assuming that one of them did it since it screams “non-mainstream”. Perhaps, even more “non-mainstream” than myself.
Maybe a NYU freshman thought of it.
Yes, I like it’s simplicity. Like Tumblr itself, I value clean lines and less clutter (except when it comes to my re-blogging, in which case I will keep every single name that re-blogged before myself added to the end of the photo or quote or whatever…(via mascarah) (via claudia) (via peterwknox)).

Except maybe, when Peter W. Knox come back to the page a couple of days later, he realizes that the photo is not as “inspirational” as he thought. In fact, if Peter W. Knox looks closely, he can tell that certain words have been CROSSED OUT. And that, minus the one spelling error (which should give him clues that it is not, in fact, some ~*trendy*~ artist like Banksky or WHATEVER, but just some rich idiot from NYU), the sign actually reads: You will be the opening. I want you to (to) end. The promise and the threat.
“Inspirational” posters that also have vague sexual innuendos: another reason to hate Tumblr.
